Come the weekend of August 13th and 14th our office came together to fundraise and fight the battle against cancer. The American Cancer Society of Portland hosted it’s annual Relay for Life Event at Portland Christian High School. The event started early Saturday morning and ended Sunday morning. Our office chose to partake in the event because of personal accounts and dealings many of our staff members have had with different cancers.
Throughout the 24 hour experience we were immersed in a community much bigger than everyone at the event. Spending the whole day fundraising and walking the track we became apart of something special. At night a Luminaria ceremony took place, where we helped set out white lunch bags with glowing tea lights inside to display hand drawn pictures and names of cancer patients. Imagine a dark night and what looked like hundreds of firelies hovering still on both sides of the school track. Complete silence fell upon the track while glowing lights brought a feeling of love and warmth to all who walked the special commemoration laps. Relay walkers passed by glowing bags that displayed the names of loved ones who at the time were: battling cancer, in remission, and those who lost their fight with cancer. It was a very emotional and heartfelt experience, one that inspired a community to cry, remember, and fight back together.
Our office would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who contributed to and supported our cause as we fundraised over one thousand dollars for the American Cancer Society.
